Varanasi: Jaunpur police have arrested three robbers involved in a March 11 robbery targeting a Jan Seva Kendra operator under the Jaffrabad police station. The arrests followed an encounter involving a joint team from Jaffrabad and Gaurabadshahpur police stations along with SWAT. Authorities recovered the stolen motorcycle, mobile phones, cash, and illegal firearms.
The incident began when Nisha Devi, a resident of Gosaipur village, filed a complaint that her husband Premchandra Yadav was shot at while returning from the Jan Seva Kendra. The assailants fled after looting his motorcycle, mobile phone, and cash kept in a black bag.
Acting on a tip-off, police, including Jaffrabad SHO Shriprakash Shukla, SWAT in-charge Amit Kumar Pandey, and SHO Gaurabadshahpur Praveen Kumar Yadav, intercepted three suspects near Belaw bridge coming from the Kerakat Belaw side on the stolen motorcycle. When signaled to stop, the robbers fired at the police team. Senior sub-inspector Arvind Kumar Singh was injured in his right hand, and a bullet struck the SHO’s bulletproof jacket.
In retaliatory fire, Adarsh Yadav alias Algu from Vishunpur Baswat was shot and found with a .32 bore pistol, live cartridges, and Rs 9,520. Aman Yadav of Bagthri sustained a leg injury while fleeing, and authorities recovered Rs 8,780 and a mobile phone from him. From Diwakar Kumar, police seized a .315 bore country-made pistol, a misfired cartridge, empty shell, mobile phone, and Rs 8,700. All injured were taken to Sadar Hospital, Jaunpur.
During interrogation, Adarsh Yadav confessed that he, along with Diwakar Kumar, Aman Yadav, and Anurag Yadav, committed the robbery, acquiring around Rs 90,000. Anurag reportedly kept most of the loot, giving the others Rs 10,000 each along with the mobile phone and motorcycle.
Jaunpur Assistant Superintendent of Police Goldy Gupta confirmed that legal proceedings against the accused are underway.
