Akeem Bigelow Arrested in New Hartford Burglary Attempt

Man charged after stealing ladder, resisting police

A man was arrested in New Hartford, New York after allegedly attempting to break into a home early Thursday morning.

According to the New Hartford Police Department, officers responded shortly before 4 a.m. to a report of someone trying to access a garage on Woodland Road.

Police said Akeem Bigelow, 36, of Utica, New York, entered the garage through an open window and stole a ladder, which he attempted to use to reach the second-floor residence.

Officers tried to detain Bigelow on Woodlawn Road, but he ran. After a short pursuit, police caught him, and he allegedly resisted while being handcuffed.

Bigelow was charged with burglary, resisting arrest, and obstructing governmental administration. He was processed at the New Hartford Police Department and taken to the Oneida County Jail to await arraignment.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
