Four members of a Haryana-based Sansi gang have been arrested by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Goa for allegedly stealing gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs85 lakh from a 60-year-old businessman traveling from Chennai to Kollam.
The accused — Dilbagh (62), Jitendhar (45), Manojkumar (36), and Rajesh (42) — were handed over to Kerala railway police and remanded in custody. The victim, Abdul Naseem of Chennai, was traveling with his wife on November 13 when 847 grams of jewellery were stolen from their luggage while they were away in the pantry car. The couple immediately filed a complaint with Kollam railway police.
A special team, led by Inspectors Madhusudhan Reddy from Chennai Central Railway Station along with officers Naveen and Anil, reviewed passenger lists and CCTV footage across multiple railway stations. Investigators discovered that the four men had boarded the train at Koyilandy en route to Mangalore and later booked tickets from Mangalore to Goa, which helped track their movements.
The gang was apprehended in Goa with assistance from the local RPF. Authorities seized gold and diamond jewellery weighing approximately 100 sovereigns (800 grams). An RPF officer noted that this was the first time members of the Sansi gang, suspected in over 100 train thefts, were caught.
“Swift coordination between units helped secure the suspects within two days,” the officer added, praising the rapid action that led to the gang’s arrest.
