The Ghana Police Service has arrested eight Chinese nationals and two Ghanaians over their alleged involvement in a cable theft and metal export syndicate targeting the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The arrests followed a police operation at the Kpone Industrial Area on March 4, after authorities received intelligence that stolen ECG cables were being processed at Sentuo Company.
The raid was carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy. Officers reportedly found around 70 workers dismantling cables and stripping metal components before compressing them into blocks believed to be intended for export.
Speaking to journalists in Accra, Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of the CID, said the operation uncovered a large quantity of stolen ECG materials.
Authorities reported that more than 100 drums of cables suspected to belong to ECG were recovered during the operation, suggesting a well-organized and long-running criminal network.
The Ghanaian suspects were identified as Samuel Ekpe and Priscilla Padu. The Chinese nationals allegedly involved in managerial roles at Sentuo Company include Yuxiaoting, He Jing, Xu Changjiu, Li Lei, Chen Jin, Zheng Ma, Wang Jian, and Bin Bin.
Police said a 24-hour guard has been placed at the facility to prevent the removal of any materials while investigations continue. Authorities described the operation as a significant step in protecting national electrical infrastructure and stated that efforts are ongoing to bring all individuals involved in the scheme to justice.
