A 29-year-old woman was arrested in Trichy on Sunday for allegedly stealing ornaments worth Rs 2.7 lakh from the house where she worked as a domestic help.
The accused, N Anandhi, resides in Mela Pandamangalam, Woraiyur, and was employed at the residence of K Ragunath, 43, on Salai Road. Ragunath operates a fuel station at Ariyamangalam.
According to police, on August 28 last year, Ragunath’s wife, Shanmugapriya, placed nine sovereigns of gold ornaments, including a pair of bangles, a necklace, and a pair of diamond earrings, inside a small pouch in her locker. When she checked the locker on October 26, the ornaments were missing.
Following a complaint lodged by Ragunath, the Woraiyur police registered a case. During the investigation, Anandhi was identified as a suspect. When questioned, she reportedly confessed to the crime.
Police recovered seven sovereigns of gold ingots that Anandhi had melted from the stolen ornaments, along with the diamond earrings. Further investigation into the theft is ongoing.
