Five men were arrested from Rajasthan for allegedly breaking into a jewellery store in Borivali and stealing gold, silver, and diamond ornaments worth around Rs6.8 crore.
The theft occurred on January 13 at the Gold Point jewellery store in IC Colony, Borivali. According to the complainant, Rakesh Shantilal Porwal, the break-in happened between 10:30 pm and 1:30 am. The stolen items, kept in a safe, included gold, silver, and diamonds. Two store employees, Prabhu Singh and Narayan Singh, went missing after the incident, and the police registered a case against them and unknown suspects.
Following the incident, the MHB Colony police launched a 45-day investigation and manhunt. Special teams scanned CCTV footage from the store and surrounding areas, which helped trace the suspects’ movements to Rajasthan.
On January 28, using CCTV evidence, tip-offs, and informants, police located one accused hiding in a temple inside a dense forest near Kuwariya village, Rajsamand district. Using thermal detection drones to identify the heat signature of the accused, police set a trap and arrested him. During questioning, he confessed that he had stolen the jewellery with the help of:
Ganpat Singh
Kishan Singh
Mohammad Singh Dasana
Devi Singh Dasana
Subsequent operations in three forest areas of Rajsamand, conducted jointly with Rajasthan police and aided by private thermal drones, led to the arrest of two more suspects. By March 1, Ganpat Singh and Kishan Singh were apprehended while traveling to Kuwariya village.
So far, police have recovered stolen assets worth Rs4.65 crore, including 3 kg of gold valued at Rs4.5 crore and 5 kg of silver worth Rs15 lakh. Investigations are ongoing to locate the remaining stolen property.
The five arrested suspects are being transported to Mumbai, where they will be produced before a local court on Wednesday.
