In a major crackdown on drug trafficking and vehicle theft, police in the Jammu South area have seized 691.8 grams of heroin worth around Rs2.5 crore in the international market and recovered 23 stolen vehicles over the last 67 days under two special operations.

Addressing the media at Police Station Gandhi Nagar, SP Jammu South Ajay Sharma said that under Operation Sanjeevani, a sustained anti-narcotics drive, 23 FIRs were registered under the NDPS Act against 33 accused.

Major Heroin Recovery

During the operations, police made a commercial quantity seizure of about 262 grams of heroin from Rashpal Singh alias Anda, a resident of Upper Gadigarh, in addition to other recoveries in separate cases.

Vehicle Theft Gang Uncovered

In a separate vehicle theft case, Police Station Gangyal registered FIR No. 13/2026 after a Scorpio vehicle was stolen from Kunwani Chowk.

A team led by SHO Gangyal Inspector Sanjeev Chib traced the vehicle to Uttar Pradesh, arresting Ramesh Singh of Dinanagar, Jammu. Interrogation revealed the involvement of Pawan Kumar from Bhiwani, Haryana, leading to the discovery of an interstate vehicle theft gang.

Police said the gang used advanced electronic tools to disable vehicle alert systems and steal vehicles within 15–20 seconds. The chassis numbers were altered, and vehicles were sold nationwide for Rs4–5 lakh each. So far, four vehicles linked to this gang have been recovered, contributing to a total of 23 stolen vehicles recovered in Jammu South this year.

Additional Achievements

The SP also commended the teams of Police Post Digiana and Gandhi Nagar Police Station for solving the 2016 murder case of a 12-year-old girl in Digiana.

The accused, Ramesh Kumar, father of the deceased and a resident of Chhatarpur, was recently arrested by Delhi Police near Bhati Mines and handed over to Jammu and Kashmir Police.

These operations highlight the success of coordinated efforts against drugs, vehicle theft, and cold-case investigations in the region.
