Delhi Police have arrested three men involved in the theft of Rs54 lakh entrusted to an employee of a jewellery trader in Chandni Chowk, officials said on Saturday.
The accused were identified as:
Rupesh Kumar (24)
Sachin alias Vikas (24)
Pawan Kumar (21)
All three are residents of Sonia Vihar.
Background of the Case
The case was registered on February 6 after a bullion trader alleged that his employee Rupesh Kumar had absconded with Rs54 lakh meant to be delivered in the market on February 5.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Aditya Gautam, the police received information that the suspects would gather in northeast Delhi to distribute the stolen cash.
Police Operation
A trap was laid near Khazoori Khas Flyover on March 5. Rupesh Kumar and Sachin alias Vikas were apprehended at the spot, while Pawan Kumar was later arrested from Sonia Vihar.
During interrogation, Rupesh confessed that he had worked for the bullion trader, handling collection and delivery of payments. Noticing large cash transactions, he planned with his associates to flee with the money.
Theft Details
On February 5, when handed Rs54 lakh to purchase silver from another trader, Rupesh decamped with the cash.
Police recovered the following during the operation:
Rupesh Kumar: Rs27 lakh in cash
Sachin alias Vikas: Rs2.5 lakh
Pawan Kumar: Rs2 lakh cash, deposit receipts worth Rs8 lakh, and a car
Authorities are continuing investigation to ensure full recovery of the stolen funds and identify any other accomplices.
