The Ludhiana Police announced on Thursday that they had cracked a truck loot case within 12 hours of the incident, arresting three accused—including the former owner and driver of the vehicle—both residents of Sonepat.
Police identified the arrested individuals as:
Lovedeep Singh (34), former owner of the truck and the key accused
Ranjit Singh (66)
Gurtej Singh (40), former driver of the truck
According to ADCP Sameer Verma, the key accused, Lovedeep Singh, who already had a registered drug smuggling case, had allegedly hatched a conspiracy with his former driver, Gurtej Singh, to loot the truck and use it to smuggle narcotics from Rajasthan to Punjab.
The former driver was also accused of sharing information about the truck’s location at the time of the theft. Police successfully recovered the looted truck from Sonepat after scanning CCTV footage from toll barriers.
The incident occurred on March 2 at around 3:30 pm, when police received information that a truck had been looted from Guru Vihar, Basti Jodhewal. Swift action by the dispatched police teams led to the arrests and recovery of the vehicle.
Police said that Lovedeep Singh confessed to being the first owner of the truck and that he had planned the theft and conspiracy with Gurtej Singh for illegal activities, including narcotics smuggling.
The arrests highlight efficient inter-district coordination between Ludhiana and Sonepat police in cracking vehicle theft and potential drug trafficking cases.
