Pune, Maharashtra: In a major breakthrough, Vishrambaug police have arrested two accused from Delhi for orchestrating a well-organised inter-state house-breaking racket targeting Pune’s Peth areas. Gold, silver jewellery, and cash collectively worth Rs 30–35 lakh were recovered.

The investigation began after a burglary on January 18, 2026, at Flat No. 01, Sushila Apartment, Navi Peth, where the complainant, Swaroopa Sanjeev Kapde (40), found her bedroom cupboard broken and valuables missing. Stolen items included gold chains, a mangalsutra, earrings, a Y-shaped necklace, and Rs 12,000 in cash, totaling around Rs 1.5 lakh. A case was registered at Vishrambaug police station under Sections 305(a) and 331(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for theft and house trespass.

Police analysis of CCTV footage and railway station movements revealed the suspects’ method: they would travel from Delhi, bypass main doors, and break internal lockers using tools like iron cutters and screwdrivers, indicating professional experience in house-breaking.

Acting on intelligence about the suspects’ arrival at Pune railway station, a trap was laid by a team led by Assistant Police Inspector Rajesh Usgaonkar. On February 23, 2026, at around 11 pm, the accused were apprehended.

The arrested were identified as Aakash Subhash (23) from Meerut, residing in Sundar Nagari, Delhi, and Jitendra Chaturvedi (32), also from Sundar Nagari. Interrogation and cross-verification of facts led to disclosures about their involvement in four prior house burglaries within the same jurisdiction—two at Samarth police station, one each at Khadak and Vishrambaug police stations.

Searches at the lodge where the accused stayed, conducted in the presence of a magistrate and panch witnesses, recovered gold and diamond jewellery, bracelets, bangles, necklaces, coins, and other valuables worth Rs 40,90,513. Authorities believe the accused are habitual offenders and may have accomplices still at large.
