Anjana Alias Pankhudi Among 4 Held in Gold Theft

Interstate Gang Stole 90g Jewellery in Jaipur

by Ananya Mehta

Four members of an interstate theft gang were arrested on Thursday for allegedly stealing 90 grams of gold jewellery from a passenger travelling in an auto-rickshaw near Chandpole in Jaipur.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Karan Sharma identified the accused as Anjana alias Pankhudi, Alpa Ben Solanki, Sharda alias Pooja, and Kangya Arjun. Police said the four are habitual offenders and had been involved in similar theft cases in Jaipur in the past.

According to officials, complainant Ramniwas Soni lodged a report at Kotwali Police Station last month. He stated that he was carrying a necklace and two ear tops weighing around 90 grams, which he had collected from his nephew in Kardhani.

Soni boarded an auto-rickshaw from Doodh Mandi around 4 pm, heading towards Chandpole. Shortly after the journey began, four to five women dressed in sarees and salwar suits boarded the vehicle. When the auto dropped him near the Hanuman temple at Chandpole and he checked his bag, the jewellery kept in a separate pouch was missing.

Police investigations revealed that the gang operated in a coordinated manner. Members would board autos or e-rickshaws, engage passengers in conversation to create confusion, and discreetly cover bags with a chunni or cloth. During the distraction, they would unzip bags and remove valuables. After executing the theft, the accused would ask the driver to stop the vehicle and quickly disperse.

Further interrogation is underway to identify other gang members and recover the stolen jewellery
