The Sartaj Alam, a man from Jamshedpur, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for allegedly trafficking job seekers from Jharkhand to a cyber scam hub in Bangkok, where victims were forced to participate in organised online fraud activities.
The arrest took place under the jurisdiction of the Azadnagar Police Station, with assistance from local police authorities. So far, 15 people from Jharkhand have been rescued, with Sartaj Alam having sent three of them to the scam centers. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other agents involved in the case.
CID officials revealed that Alam, in conspiracy with associates outside India, recruited young job seekers by offering attractive overseas employment opportunities. Victims were sent to countries such as Bangkok, Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand, often paying money for visas and travel arrangements. Once at the scam centers, the victims were forced to work long hours under harsh conditions, had their passports seized, and were threatened with severe penalties to prevent them from leaving.
The accused has been booked under relevant human trafficking, cybercrime, and exploitation laws, as the investigation continues into this international slavery and cyber fraud network.
