Hyderabad city police have dismantled an inter-state mobile phone snatching gang, arresting four individuals and recovering 21 stolen mobile phones valued at approximately Rs 6 lakh.
The crime staff of Mehdipatnam Police arrested Anil Kumar Nonia and Gourav Nonia from West Bengal, along with Paran Kumar and Deva Kumar from Jharkhand. According to police officials, the group operated under the direction of an absconding mastermind, Sagar Kumar Nonia. The gang allegedly targeted crowded public locations such as railway stations and bus terminals, where they carried out thefts and snatchings before disposing of the stolen phones in bulk.
In a separate crackdown, the Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force (South West Zone), in coordination with Banjara Hills police, apprehended two repeat offenders involved in mobile phone and motorbike thefts. The accused, Syed Feroz Khan and Shaik Sameer, both from Maharashtra’s Nanded district, reportedly preyed on security guards and cab drivers, stealing their phones while they were asleep.
Police recovered 21 additional mobile phones and a stolen motorbike worth Rs 3 lakh from the duo. Investigations revealed that the pair had earlier stolen a motorbike in Nanded before carrying out multiple thefts across the Hyderabad and Cyberabad Commissionerates.
Officials stated that financial distress was cited as the motive behind the crimes. All six accused have been remanded to judicial custody, and further investigation is underway to identify other associates involved in the network.
Police have advised citizens to remain vigilant and safeguard their belongings, particularly in crowded public areas, to prevent such incidents.
