Shaktinagar police in Sonbhadra district arrested a man, Sajan, in connection with a jewellery robbery following an encounter near Kali Mandir bus stand on Saturday. Police recovered a .32 bore pistol, two empty cartridges, and a large quantity of stolen jewellery.
The case dates back to November 15, when a cash and jewellery loot incident was reported in the Shaktinagar police station area. Acting on a tip-off about the accused’s presence near Jharna Basti on Helipad Road, a police team cordoned off the area.
Upon noticing the police, Sajan opened fire. In retaliation, police shot him in the left leg, after which he was arrested and sent to CHC Anpara for treatment.
Recovered items include:
White metal chain
Eight pairs of white metal anklets and one loose piece
13 amulets, bangle, toe rings, lockets
Pair of four-tier earrings, locket, six nose rings
Based on the recovery, additional charges under sections 309(4), 317(2), 109(1) BNS and 3/25 Arms Act were added, and further legal action is underway.
During interrogation, Sajan confessed that the robbery was planned at the house of his accomplice Roshan, who, along with Sonu and Rohit, executed the crime. Rohit’s role was to alert the gang when the jeweller closed the shop. On the day of the incident, Roshan and Sonu confronted the jeweller at gunpoint and snatched the bag containing jewellery.
