Varanasi Police Arrest Mukesh Yadav in Robbery Case

Recovered gold earrings, illegal firearm, and live cartridge

Varanasi Badagaon police arrested a wanted accused, Mukesh Yadav alias Chandan Yadav, in connection with a robbery case during a police encounter on Thursday. The operation also led to the recovery of looted gold earrings and an illegal firearm.

According to reports, on October 28, two unknown men entered a woman’s home in Harhua and snatched her gold earrings and locket. Following the complaint, a case was registered against unknown persons.

DCP Gomti Zone, Akash Patel, formed a special team under CO Pindra to investigate. The team analyzed CCTV footage from 150 cameras and traced the vehicle used in the crime. Acting on a tip-off, police located and arrested Mukesh Yadav from Chanduwa Satti, Chhittupur.

During interrogation, Mukesh revealed that he and his aide Sonu Singh Rajput would conduct reconnaissance of elderly people’s houses to rob jewelry and valuables. On the day of the crime, he reached Harhua on Sonu’s motorcycle. When the woman opened the door, they forced their way inside and snatched her ornaments. Mukesh later wrapped both earrings in polythene and buried them near a temple in Idilpur Pratappatti village.

During the recovery operation, Mukesh fired at the police team with an illegal firearm. Police returned fire, hitting him in the leg. Authorities recovered two gold earrings, a 315-bore firearm, a live cartridge, and an empty cartridge. The DCP rewarded the police team with Rs25,000 for their efforts.
