Hyderabad city police have arrested three men from Madhya Pradesh for cheating and theft by posing as spiritual healers. The accused allegedly targeted elderly citizens, duping them under the pretext of performing religious rituals. Gold ornaments were recovered from their possession by the Warasiguda police.
The arrested individuals were identified as Subhash Nath (23), Karan Nath (21), and Sohan Nath (23). The trio had migrated to Hyderabad in search of employment and were residing in temporary huts near Jalpally Road in the Pahadi Shareef area.
According to police, the accused deliberately approached senior citizens, gaining their trust by offering to conduct prayers and spiritual ceremonies. On February 5, two of the suspects approached Venigalla Ravi, a retired GST superintendent, and convinced him to hand over his gold ring—approximately half a thula with a green stone—claiming it was required for a ritual.
After taking the ring, the accused allegedly swallowed it to avoid detection and fled the scene in an auto-rickshaw, where their third accomplice was waiting.
Based on the complaint, Warasiguda police registered a case under Sections 318(4) and 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Using continuous CCTV surveillance and intelligence inputs from informants, police successfully traced and arrested the suspects.
Confirming the recovery, DCP Secunderabad Zone Rakshitha Krishna Murthy stated that the stolen gold ring was retrieved after tracking the accused.=
