NORTH DAKOTA — A Moorhead man has been arrested in connection with a string of mail thefts in Cass and Ransom counties.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office reported that the investigation, in collaboration with the United States Postal Inspection Service, began in August 2025 after authorities noticed a pattern of mail thefts in rural areas. Officials determined the thefts began in April 2025, affecting more than 250 residents.
On January 29, 2026, 50-year-old Michael Hunter of Moorhead was arrested under a federal warrant related to the ongoing mail theft investigation.
“Considering this case was investigated for several months, the investigation is another example that illustrates the strong collaboration between our federal law enforcement partners and the dedication that our agency, along with our partners, has towards spending time and resources to ensure we bring justice to our residents,” said Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner.
Hunter now faces three federal charges of theft of mail matter.
