CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. — Craven County deputies seized multiple grams of drugs, including fentanyl and more than two pounds of marijuana, during the arrest of a Cary man on multiple drug-related charges.

Michael Eugene Dwyer, 44, of Cary, was charged with felony trafficking in fentanyl, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver various controlled substances across Schedules I, II, III, and VI, as well as maintaining a vehicle for the sale of controlled substances, according to Sgt. Mike Sawyer of the Craven County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies from the K-9 Bureau conducted a traffic stop on First Street near Broad Street in New Bern on January 24. During the stop, K-9 Athos assisted in the search, resulting in the seizure of:

Over 7 grams of fentanyl

20 grams of methamphetamine

Cocaine, LSD, DMT, methadone, MDMA, and various pills

More than 2 pounds of marijuana

Multiple THC products

Dwyer is currently being held in the Craven County Jail pending further legal proceedings.

Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes praised the work of the K-9 unit, stating:
“Our K-9 Bureau is removing dangerous drugs off the streets before they get in the hands of our young people. Every dosage unit of fentanyl that the men and women of this office take off the street equates to a life saved.”
