The Benue State Police Command has arrested 10 suspects in connection with an alleged case of arson and theft in Turan Kindred, Torgov, within Katsina-Ala Local Government Area.

According to police sources, the arrests followed reports that several houses were set on fire and farm produce was stolen from residents of the community.

Police said three residents — Zaki Joseph Tyodaa, Zaki Myangega Iwaa, and Torpawa Kwan — reported that their homes were attacked at about 11:00 p.m. on January 29. The suspects allegedly set the houses ablaze and made away with tubers of yam belonging to the victims.

The complainants told officers they were able to identify some of the individuals involved in the attack.

Following the reports, the Divisional Police Officer in Katsina-Ala deployed a patrol team to the area to assess the extent of the damage and commence preliminary investigations. Photographs of the burnt buildings were taken as part of the inquiry.

Subsequently, police arrested 10 suspects from the community in connection with the incident. The suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

Authorities said investigations are ongoing and assured that additional information would be released as the case develops.
