KOTA BHARU, Malaysia — Kelantan police have arrested five individuals in connection with a series of car window smashings and thefts across Kelantan and Terengganu, officials said.
The incidents came to light on January 30, when a car window was smashed near Kampung Wakaf Berangan Cemetery in Pasir Puteh, resulting in losses of about RM1,100. Following this, police from the Kelantan contingent headquarters Criminal Investigation Department conducted raids on January 31 at three separate locations, including the Rantau Panjang ICQS Complex inspection lane, a house in Kampung Seligi, and another in Kampung Gaal, Pasir Puteh.
The raids led to the arrest of three men, a local woman, and a Thai woman, aged 32 to 55. Authorities seized items believed to be stolen, including 18 mobile phones, 11 wallets, 41 handbags and backpacks, seven pieces of jewelry, two watches, and two cars — a Proton Waja and a Proton Wira.
Police said the arrests have resolved eight cases of car window smashings, with total estimated losses of RM32,200. All suspects have been remanded for four days to assist in the ongoing investigation under Section 379 of the Penal Code.
