Kishor Savla, the prime accused and alleged mastermind behind the sensational robbery of two containers carrying Rs 400 crore in demonetised currency at Chorla Ghat in Belagavi district, voluntarily surrendered to Nashik Rural police on Saturday evening. His surrender is expected to give a significant boost to the investigation and help authorities uncover the entire network behind the crime.
The robbery allegedly took place on the night of October 22 at Chorla Ghat. The case came to light following the kidnapping of Sandeep Patil on the Ghoti–Nashik Road. Patil later filed a complaint in the third week of December, providing crucial details, including phone recordings, and explicitly naming Gujarat-based builder Kishor Savla as the owner of the cash.
Following Patil’s complaint, Maharashtra police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to track Savla. While earlier efforts failed, his voluntary surrender has given the investigation a new direction. To date, Maharashtra police have arrested four suspects in connection with the case, all of whom remain in custody.
Coordination with Belagavi police has also been initiated. Nashik police requested assistance from Belagavi SP K Ramarajan on January 6 to gather case-related information. However, Karnataka police have yet to question the arrested suspects due to pending official details from Maharashtra police. Belagavi SP K Ramarajan noted that evidence is still insufficient to begin an independent investigation without an official complaint.
