Krishnagiri police have arrested a 45-year-old man in connection with a recent house burglary that resulted in the theft of gold and silver jewellery. The accused has been identified as Vijay, a resident of Pasupathipalayam, Karur district, who was staying in Thathampatty, Salem district at the time of arrest.

The theft occurred at the home of Karuppasamy (48), a moneylender living in Ganapathy Nagar, Melsomapet, near Krishnagiri. The family had left their residence on January 13 to visit their native village near Tirupur for Pongal, and returned on January 18 to find their house burgled.

Police said the burglar had stolen 50 sovereigns of gold jewellery and approximately 4.5 kg of silver. A case was immediately registered, and a special team was formed to track the culprit.

The police investigation included scrutinising CCTV footage, which led to the identification and subsequent arrest of Vijay. While the gold has been recovered, the silver is still missing and police continue their search.

Krishnagiri District Superintendent of Police urged residents to secure their homes and inform local police before leaving for long trips. He also recommended installing CCTV cameras to enhance home security and stated that night patrols would pay extra attention to vacant homes.
