In a major crackdown on interstate thefts, Fort police have arrested Sreekanth (40), a habitual offender from Kakkamoola, involved in multiple theft cases across the state capital and neighboring districts.
The arrest followed a complaint by Biju, whose bike was stolen from the Killipalam area while parked along the roadside on Saturday. Police reviewed CCTV footage and identified Sreekanth. Acting on a tip-off that he was planning to flee to Tamil Nadu with the stolen bike, a police team apprehended him within city limits after a dramatic chase.
During interrogation, Sreekanth confessed to stealing bikes parked unattended along roadsides and committing nighttime house burglaries. Police recovered 66 sovereigns of gold ornaments, Rs 67,000 in cash, two mobile phones, and the stolen bike. He admitted that the gold was stolen from homes under Kattakada and Maranalloor police stations.
Authorities noted that Sreekanth is a repeat offender, with 26 theft cases registered at multiple police stations, including Nemom, Thampanoor, Fort, Karamana, Poonthura, Valiyathura, Kanjiramkulam, Vilappilsala, Kattakada, Kollam East, and even in Tamil Nadu. Police are investigating if he has other accomplices and ongoing theft networks.
