The Government Railway Police (GRP) has arrested Dilip Ramavatar Sahu (52) in connection with a series of thefts reported on express and local trains in Thane district, Maharashtra.
Sahu, a resident of Vitthalwadi, Kalyan East, was apprehended earlier this week, and police recovered gold jewellery and 18 mobile phones worth Rs7.15 lakh.
The investigation was initiated after a gold chain was reported stolen at Kalyan railway station on January 16. According to Senior Inspector Pandhari Kande, a combination of technical analysis and sustained patrolling during peak hours helped police lay a trap at the station and catch the accused.
During interrogation, Sahu confessed to multiple thefts within the Kalyan GRP jurisdiction. Recovered items include a gold chain worth Rs3 lakh and 18 stolen mobile phones valued at Rs4.15 lakh.
Authorities revealed that Sahu has been involved in several theft cases registered between 2023 and 2026 with Kalyan GRP. Further investigation is ongoing to determine if he had accomplices.
