Five members of a gang, including four women, were arrested by the Devbhumi Dwarka Local Crime Branch (LCB) for allegedly stealing gold chains and necklaces from women during a religious discourse at Movan village near Khambhaliya a month ago.
The suspects — Labhu Kanjiya, Prabha Solanki, Meena Kavathiya, Jana Solanki, and Bablu Udhrejiya — were detained near Khamnath Bridge in Khambhaliya, and stolen jewelry valued at Rs 7.67 lakh was recovered.
Superintendent of Police Jayrajsinh Vala said the thefts took place during a religious event at the Ramapir pillar site near Movan village. Devotees reported that gold chains and necklaces worn by women had been stolen, prompting a complaint at Khambhaliya police station.
Using technical surveillance and human intelligence, the LCB traced the accused near Khamnath Bridge. Acting on the information, officers arrested the five suspects.
Police added that the accused are residents of the Kubaliyapara and Navagam areas of Rajkot. Three of the women — Meena Kavathiya, Prabha Solanki, and Jana Solanki — have previous cases registered against them.
