PLAINFIELD, Ill. — Robert S. Emanuelson, 57, a manager at Tischler’s Market, was indicted on felony theft charges after allegedly stealing more than $92,000 from the business through voided cash transactions.
The Plainfield Police Department received a complaint on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, when the market’s owner reported that Emanuelson had been voiding completed cash transactions and keeping the money for personal use. Supporting documentation was provided to police, and Emanuelson was arrested that same day and charged with misdemeanor theft.
Two weeks later, an internal audit revealed that Emanuelson’s theft was far more extensive than initially believed. The owner discovered approximately 847 voided transactions totaling $92,709.04 dating back to January 1, 2025.
The investigation was reopened and assigned to the Plainfield Police Investigations Unit. After a three-month investigation, detectives determined sufficient evidence existed to pursue felony charges.
A grand jury subsequently indicted Emanuelson on two counts of theft:
Count I: Class 2 felony theft (720 ILCS 5/16-1(a)(1)(A), 720 ILCS 5/16-1(b)(5), 725 ILCS 5/114(c))
Count II: Class 3 felony theft (720 ILCS 5/16-1(a)(1)(A), 720 ILCS 5/16-1(b)(4), 725 ILCS 5/114(c))
