Gregory Purgerson Arrested for Jewelry Theft in Scott Co

Deputies recover stolen jewelry after thorough investigation

Scott County Sheriff’s Deputy Todd Hooker launched an investigation on Thursday, Jan. 15, following a report of jewelry stolen from a rural home undergoing remodeling, Sheriff Jerry Goodin said.

Deputy Kyle West assisted in the investigation, which led to the recovery of nearly all the stolen jewelry. Gregory A. Purgerson, 55, of the 1100 block of West Van Campen Road, south of Austin, was charged with the theft.

The victim positively identified the recovered items, and Purgerson was booked into Scott County Jail at 2:55 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Sheriff Goodin praised the deputies for their professionalism, diligence, and thorough investigative work.

Purgerson was formally charged with theft of property valued over $750 in Scott Circuit Court on Thursday, Jan. 22. He posted a $15,000 bond and was released from jail at 4 p.m. on Jan. 23.
