Jaipur police have cracked a major domestic theft in the Civil Lines area, arresting a maid and her accomplice for allegedly stealing gold jewellery and valuables worth nearly Rs 25 lakh from a local family.
According to DCP (South) Rajarshi Raj Varma, the case was reported on September 2 when a resident alleged that her domestic help had stolen ornaments and other valuables. The accused were identified as Meena Sutradhar (27), a native of Assam, and Chandra Prakash Sharma (40), a Jaipur resident living in Sodala as a tenant.
“Given the sensitivity of the theft, a special team was formed under senior officers, led by Sodala SHO Rajesh Sharma. CCTV footage from the locality and city exit routes was scrutinised to track the suspects,” said Varma. Both Meena and Chandra Prakash were subsequently arrested and confessed to the crime.
During interrogation, the duo admitted to pawning most of the stolen jewellery at gold loan companies and hiding the rest at home. Based on their disclosures, police recovered the entire stolen haul — gold coins, necklaces, chains, rings, earrings, and bracelets — collectively valued at around Rs 25 lakh.
Police stated that further investigation is underway to determine if the suspects are linked to other similar thefts in the city.
