Jordan Carmi Arrested in Des Moines Shooting Death

One Dead, Another Injured in Downtown Iowa Shootings

by Sophia Bennett

DES MOINES, Iowa — One person is dead and another injured following two separate shootings in downtown Des Moines early Thursday morning, authorities say.

Police responded around 2:30 a.m. to an apartment building at 308 Court Ave, where they found 30-year-old Tony Young suffering from critical gunshot injuries. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

31-year-old Jordan Carmi, a resident of the building, was arrested Thursday morning and charged with first-degree murder. Investigators say a dispute at the apartment led Carmi to allegedly shoot Young with a handgun. Authorities recovered a handgun from Walnut Creek near the North Valley Drive bridge believed to be connected to the incident.

Earlier, officers also responded to a local hospital when a man arrived with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Authorities have not confirmed if the two incidents are related.

Both shootings remain under investigation, and law enforcement officials are asking anyone with information to come forward.
