The city crime branch has arrested three men accused of carrying out a daring house robbery in Gajrawadi, where they allegedly looted cash and valuables even as the homeowner watched helplessly. The arrests were made ten days after the incident, and stolen items were recovered from the accused.
Police identified the arrested men as Amarsingh Bawri, Kuldipsingh Bawri, and Premsingh Bawri, who allegedly went on a burglary spree on the night of September 29. Their first attempt in Gajrawadi yielded little cash, prompting them to target another residence in the same locality belonging to Shailesh Chunara.
According to investigators, Amarsingh and Premsingh entered the house while Kuldipsingh stood guard outside. During the burglary, Chunara and his family returned home after attending a garba event. When Chunara confronted Kuldipsingh, the accused allegedly threatened him with a sword and alerted his accomplices.
The trio then fled the spot with cash and jewellery valued at Rs 7.47 lakh. Following the incident, police launched an investigation, analysed CCTV footage from the area, and tracked the suspects’ movements.
Acting on a tip-off that the accused were planning to regroup in the Wadi area, the crime branch team apprehended them and recovered part of the stolen cash and jewellery. During questioning, the accused confessed to their involvement in the robbery, police said. Further investigation is ongoing to determine their role in other similar offences.
