EL PASO, Texas — A 35-year-old man has been arrested in far East El Paso after allegedly stealing and selling multiple vehicles, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPCSO).
Authorities identified the suspect as Javier Navarro, who is charged with theft of a vehicle and theft by fraud. Bond for each charge was set at $5,000.
Deputies responded on Friday, Jan. 23, to a reported theft in the 3600 block of Augusta Avenue. Investigators determined that Navarro unlawfully entered a gated property, falsely claimed ownership of several vehicles, and sold them without the owner’s permission.
Two victims were identified during the investigation. The primary victim was the rightful owner of 10 vehicles valued at approximately $26,000. A second victim reported being defrauded of about $1,600.
While the investigation was ongoing, Navarro allegedly contacted the second victim seeking additional payment. Deputies coordinated a meeting near Zaragoza Road and North Loop Drive, where Navarro was taken into custody without incident.
EPCSO confirmed that six stolen vehicles were recovered and returned to their rightful owner. The investigation remains ongoing.
