Itanagar Police have arrested a habitual offender, Ngurang Taka (18), and recovered gold ornaments, cash, and several mobile phones in connection with two separate theft cases in the capital.
The first case involved Ms Loyir, a resident of Raj Bhawan, who reported on January 21, 2026, that her bag containing Rs 40,000, important documents, an iPhone 14, a Realme phone, a Samsung handset, and a gold chain was stolen from Heema Hospital near Bank Tinali on January 20 at around 4:24 AM. The incident was registered as Itanagar PS Case No. 012/2026 under Section 305(a) of the BNS, 2023.
The second case was filed by Mrs Teli Geeta, wife of Sri Higio Tatung, alleging that between 1 PM and 5 PM on January 19, unknown miscreants stole a bag containing a gold chain worth Rs 2 lakh, other local ornaments, and a mobile phone from her grocery shop near Pahalman More, 6 Kilo, NH-415. This was registered as Itanagar PS Case No. 10/2026.
A special police team, led by Sub-Inspector Padam Padi under supervision of DySP Khiksi Yangfo, Inspector Randhir Kumar Jha, SDPO Shri Kengo Dichi, and SP ICR Itanagar Shri Jummar Basar, reviewed CCTV footage and used human intelligence to track the culprit. Footage showed a masked individual committing thefts at both locations.
The police investigation identified and arrested Ngurang Taka, recently released on bail, who is a habitual offender with multiple prior theft and robbery cases registered at Itanagar Police Station. Stolen property including gold, cash, and mobile phones was recovered from him.
SP Itanagar, Shri Jummar Basar, praised the swift police action and urged citizens to remain vigilant and safeguard their belongings. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to taking strict action against repeat offenders to ensure public safety and security.
