Venur Police have arrested Itthe Barpe Abubakkar (71) for allegedly breaking into a house in Kuththuru and stealing gold ornaments worth approximately Rs9.5 lakh.
The theft occurred between October 2 and October 6 at the home of Avinash, a teacher residing in Manjushree Nagar, Kuththuru, Naravi village, while his family was away. A case was promptly filed at the Venur Police Station.
During the investigation, police apprehended Abubakkar. On the night of November 11, Sub-Inspector Oman and his team were conducting vehicle checks near Kumbhashree, Venur, when they stopped a suspicious scooter rider. Upon verification, Abubakkar was found linked to multiple thefts in Mangaluru.
When questioned at the police station, he confessed to the theft at Avinash’s residence. Abubakkar was presented before the Belthangady court on November 12 and remanded to three days of police custody for further investigation.
Sources revealed that Abubakkar had previously served a two-month jail term for theft in Shirva, Udupi, and was recently released. The arrest operation was conducted under the supervision of Inspector Subbapur Math and led by SI Oman along with the Venur police team.
