The Delhi police have arrested a 33-year-old history-sheeter, Tausif alias Toshif, for allegedly snatching an iPhone from a US national in the Chandni Chowk area. The incident occurred on January 15 when the victim, Jing Teng (37) from Somerville, Massachusetts, was shopping near Omaxe Mall.

The thief reportedly fled on a scooter after snatching the iPhone. Following a complaint filed at Kotwali police station on January 16, authorities set up a special team to review footage from over 50 CCTV cameras. The visuals clearly captured the accused committing the snatching and being chased by the victim.

Police identified the suspect as Tausif, a resident of Ajmeri Gate, who has a long criminal record and is listed as a “bad character” at Kamla Market police station. He was apprehended on January 19 from the GB Road area while allegedly preparing to commit another crime.

During interrogation, Tausif confessed to the Chandni Chowk snatching, and the stolen iPhone 14 Pro was recovered from his residence. The scooter used in the crime, belonging to his father, was also seized.

Additionally, Tausif admitted to snatching another mobile near Old Delhi Railway Station on January 12, a case already filed at Lahori Gate police station. With his arrest, police successfully solved two mobile snatching cases.
