A Nashville man has been charged after police say he robbed a shopper at gunpoint in a store parking lot late last year.
According to an arrest affidavit, the robbery occurred on Dec. 30 in the parking lot of a Home Depot on Joyce Lane. Investigators say the victim was approached by Marlow Spencer II, 19, and a juvenile, who asked the shopper to buy candy.
The victim offered to pay with cash, but the suspects allegedly insisted on card payment only. When the victim refused to provide his card, the affidavit states the pair followed him to his vehicle.
Police say Spencer then displayed a handgun and demanded the victim’s bank card. Fearing for his life, the victim handed it over. Investigators allege Spencer used a portable card reader connected to his phone to attempt multiple transactions before returning the card.
Out of six attempted charges of $1,000 each, only one transaction was successful, according to the affidavit. Spencer and the juvenile then fled the scene.
An investigation led officers to Spencer, who was later identified by the victim as one of the suspects. He was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery.
Court records also show Spencer was previously arrested in February of last year in connection with another armed robbery on Lea Avenue, where he faced multiple charges.
