The Cyber Crime Cell of Chandigarh Police has arrested a key accused in a sophisticated email impersonation fraud that defrauded a city-based businessman of Rs 15 lakh.
The arrest is connected to an FIR registered on January 8 at the Cybercrime Police Station. DSP A Venkatesh confirmed that the arrested individual is Sandeep Laxman Sah (36), a resident of Sultanpuri, Delhi.
The case was lodged on the complaint of Sanjiv Sabharwal, associated with a medical firm that had business dealings with a Chennai-based medical equipment company. On October 6, 2025, Sabharwal received an email from a fraudulent ID — [email protected]
— falsely claiming that the company had changed its bank account details and requesting the pending payment to be transferred to a Canara Bank account.
The investigation revealed that Sah orchestrated the email fraud, duping the businessman into transferring the funds. Authorities are continuing the probe to trace any accomplices and recover the defrauded amount.
