Mohali police have arrested four members of an organised vehicle theft gang and recovered two motorcycles, two Activa scooters and a Tata Tipper from their possession. Police revealed that the gang stole two-wheelers, dismantled them, and sold the parts as scrap.
DSP City-2 Harsimran Singh Bal said the arrested accused have been identified as Prince Kumar, a resident of Daddiana Kalan in Hoshiarpur currently living near a government school in Badmajra, along with Sahil, Tulsi Ram and Vishal Gupta, all natives of Uttar Pradesh.
According to police investigations, the gang primarily targeted vehicles parked in different areas of Mohali. Prince Kumar and Sahil allegedly stole motorcycles and dismantled them into spare parts, which were sold to scrap dealer Tulsi Ram for amounts ranging between Rs3,000 and Rs3,500 per vehicle.
Tulsi Ram then sold the dismantled parts to his associate Vishal Gupta for prices between Rs5,000 and Rs7,000. Vishal Gupta allegedly further sold the scrap to another dealer, Suresh, a resident of Sector 45, Burail, Chandigarh. Police said the stolen vehicles were eventually converted entirely into scrap.
Suresh has been named in the case, though his arrest is still pending. SHO Aman Baidwan of Phase-11 police station said a case has been registered under Sections 303(2) and 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and police teams are conducting raids to apprehend the remaining accused.
