Waliv police have arrested a couple from Nashik for allegedly stabbing a jeweller in Vasai during an attempted robbery. The accused, Sohail Sharafat Khan (23) and Firdous Bano (23), reportedly planned the crime to clear business debts after watching a video on social media, police said.
According to Senior Inspector Dilip Ghuge of Waliv police station, the couple, who are originally from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, arrived in Mumbai with their one-and-a-half-year-old daughter three to four days prior to the incident. Sohail, who had previously lived in Vasai, conducted a reconnaissance of the area before carrying out the attack.
Police said the couple’s motive was to target a jewellery shop to recover from financial losses. Authorities have confirmed the arrest and are investigating the case further to determine if others were involved.
