SAN ANTONIO — A woman was arrested in San Antonio after police accused her of stealing mail from dozens of residences on the city’s East Side, according to authorities.

Charlotte Renee Smith, 33, was taken into custody on allegations of mail theft involving information from more than 50 addresses, according to Bexar County Jail records.

San Antonio Police Department officers responded Sunday to a reported theft in the 700 block of East Euclid Avenue, near Brooklyn Avenue. Witnesses told officers that a woman had been opening mailboxes and removing mail from multiple homes in the area.

Police later located Smith and observed her allegedly removing a large stack of mail. She was detained for questioning, and officers discovered a duffel bag in her possession containing a significant amount of stolen mail, SAPD said.

Smith was booked into the Bexar County Jail, where her bond was set at $50,000.

Authorities did not release additional details regarding the identities of potential victims or whether further charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
