HUA HIN, Thailand — Hua Hin police arrested 36-year-old Rattikorn Yingyot yesterday in connection with the murder and robbery of a hotel receptionist, after tracking him near a railway line about five kilometres from the crime scene.
The attack occurred at around 3:15 a.m. on January 19 at Best LD Hotel in Soi Hua Hin 88/1. The victim, 35-year-old Wirin, was found dead behind the reception counter with severe head injuries. She had been struck at least 14 times with an iron bar, which was discovered at the scene.
CCTV footage reportedly showed Rattikorn pacing the reception area before climbing over the counter and repeatedly attacking Wirin while she slept. He then stole two mobile phones and a black bag before fleeing.
Originally from Nakhon Si Thammarat province, Rattikorn was described as homeless and had a long criminal history, including sexual assault, theft, physical abuse, and drug-related offences. Locals reported he had been living along railway tracks in Hua Hin and begging from residents and tourists.
Police located the suspect at 3:50 p.m., hiding in grass near Soi Hua Hin 40/2. Rattikorn resisted arrest and tried to conceal his identity by lying face down. Officers confirmed his identity and handcuffed him. At the time, he was wearing a black T-shirt, dark blue jacket, jeans, a cap, and flipflops. A blue Samsung phone was recovered from him, which he claimed to have found on a beach.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the stolen phones and bag were recovered. Angry relatives at the scene attempted to attack the suspect, forcing police to quickly transport him to the station. Further questioning and legal proceedings are underway.
