A 17-year-old youth from Chakan succumbed to his injuries on Friday night, four days after being assaulted by six workers at a labour camp in Dudulgaon near Dighi. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. on August 25.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Bapu Bangar, the minor and two accomplices had entered the workers’ huts in the labour camp allegedly to steal valuables. On August 26, police received information that one of the youths was tied up and confined in a hut. Authorities rescued him and rushed him to the hospital, but he passed away under medical care around 11 p.m. on Friday. Following the death, his 17-year-old wife filed a complaint with Dighi police station.
The police have arrested six labourers in connection with the case: Anil Ram (33), Gautamkumar Prasad (22), Brijesh Prasad (24), Kamlesh Yadav (20), Shailendra Prasad (23), and Mannu (36). A case of murder has been registered, and the accused were reportedly involved in the construction of a residential project.
DCP Bangar added that some workers saw the minor and his accomplices attempting to steal from a hut. While two of the youths fled, the workers caught the deceased, tied his hands and legs, and assaulted him with plastic pipes, leading to fatal injuries.
