MILLBROOK, Ala. (KOIN) — Two men, Frederick L. McCoy, 25, of Millbrook, and Antonio M. Patterson, 44, of Montgomery, were arrested on Thursday, November 21, 2024, after being caught stealing property from a residence on Thornfield Drive. The swift response of Millbrook police officers led to their apprehension and arrest.
The incident began when the victim noticed, via surveillance cameras, that two men were removing equipment from their yard. The footage showed the men loading the stolen property into a vehicle and fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed. Police were dispatched to investigate the theft, and a report was filed for Theft of Property.
However, just after officers left the scene, the two suspects returned to the residence, claiming they were willing to return the stolen property. As police arrived back at the scene, the offenders fled into a nearby residence. Officers quickly secured the perimeter and detained both McCoy and Patterson, who were later identified as the alleged offenders.
Following further investigation, both men were arrested and charged with Theft of Property in the third degree. They were transported to the Elmore County Jail with a bond set at $5,000 each.
Millbrook Police Chief commended the officers’ quick response, which enabled the prompt apprehension of the suspects. However, Patterson allegedly became combative after his arrest and later assaulted a correctional officer at the Elmore County Jail. Additional charges may be filed against him for the assault.
The case highlights the importance of surveillance equipment in protecting property and how it helped law enforcement respond effectively. The Millbrook Police Department emphasized the lesson in the words of scripture: “Thou shalt not steal,” warning that those who engage in theft may be caught and face serious consequences.
