Bicholim police arrested 48-year-old Ramesh Teli, a resident of Bordem, on Saturday for allegedly killing 51-year-old Lakshmi Shirodkar, a daily wage worker. Her body was discovered in a parked vehicle near the Bicholim market on Friday morning.

Police said Teli assaulted Shirodkar with slaps and an LED tubelight before smothering her to death inside the vehicle. Injuries were found on the victim’s body, indicating the brutal nature of the crime.

Shirodkar, a mother of two, originally from Honda, Sattari, lived primarily at the market and occasionally visited her home in Dodamarg. According to shopkeepers, Teli and Shirodkar frequently quarrelled, and the altercation on Thursday night escalated to murder.

The body was discovered the next morning by the vehicle’s driver. Within hours, police detained Teli for questioning. During interrogation, he admitted to the crime and was subsequently produced in court, where he was remanded to police custody.

Police continue to investigate the case and look into the circumstances leading up to the murder.
