Dhuri Police arrested two men on Thursday in connection with the murder of Subhash Kumar, whose body was recovered with head injuries in Dhuri on January 11. The victim, originally from Uttar Pradesh, had been temporarily staying in Ludhiana’s Dana Mandi area.
According to Sangrur SSP Sartaj Singh Chahal, the accused—Lakhanhira and Bihari Sav, both residents of Ludhiana—were apprehended during a routine patrol near the Babanpur bus stand. Police seized stolen wires and knives from the suspects.
Investigations revealed that the accused and the deceased had been committing thefts together. On January 10, they traveled from Ludhiana to Dhuri for a theft in Rajomajra village. During the night of January 10–11, a dispute over the division of stolen items escalated, and both accused struck Subhash on the head with an iron rod found at the scene.
The suspects then abandoned the body, discarded the rod, and fled. A case was registered on January 11 at Sadar Dhuri police station under Sections 103 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused were also initially booked under Sections 112, 303(2), and 317(2).
Police stated that interrogation of the accused is ongoing, with further investigation into the thefts and motive.
