Dadar Police have arrested 25-year-old Roshan Shivkumar Jaiswar, an employee of an e-commerce firm, for allegedly orchestrating the theft of Rs1.33 crore from his employer’s Prabhadevi office. Police have so far recovered Rs1.13 crore of the stolen cash.
The case was registered following a complaint by Sagar Dubey (27), co-founder of the firm, which deals in electronics and mobile phones through online and offline sales. The office employs five staff members, and cash from sales is routinely stored on-site.
On Saturday morning, employees discovered the biometric office lock damaged. Upon inspection, they found that Rs1.33 crore had been stolen from a cupboard, while another section containing Rs8.70 lakh remained untouched.
According to Senior Inspector Dnyaneshwar Awari, CCTV footage showed the intruder moving confidently, suggesting familiarity with the premises. “The biometric lock was disabled by cutting the power supply, and the accused used a duplicate key to access the cash,” he said.
Investigations revealed that the theft was an inside job. The intruder was allegedly guided via a WhatsApp video call, using duplicate keys to the office and cupboard.
Following questioning of all staff, police arrested Roshan Jaiswar, a resident of Vakola, Santacruz, who reportedly hired Ravi Kumar Jha from Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, to carry out the heist. Jaiswar guided Jha on disabling the lock and locating the cash.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Mahendra Pandit confirmed the recovery of Rs1.13 crore from Jaiswar, while the second accused, Jha, remains absconding.
A case has been registered under Sections 331 (house-trespass) and 305 (theft in a dwelling house) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, with further investigation ongoing.
