Mumbai Police have arrested the former domestic help of BJP MP and singer-actor Manoj Tiwari for allegedly stealing a total of Rs5.40 lakh in cash from his residence in Andheri West, officials said on Thursday.
The thefts took place at Tiwari’s flat located in Sundarban Apartment, Shastri Nagar. The complaint was lodged by Tiwari’s manager, Pramod Jogendra Pandey, following which a case was registered and the accused was taken into custody by the police.
The accused has been identified as Surendra Kumar Deenanath Sharma, who was dismissed from his job around two years ago. According to police, Sharma allegedly retained duplicate keys to the flat and used them to gain entry in Tiwari’s absence. He reportedly entered a bedroom and unlocked a cupboard to steal cash.
Pandey, who has been managing Manoj Tiwari’s affairs for over two decades, stated that Rs5.40 lakh kept in the bedroom had gone missing. Of this amount, Rs4.40 lakh was allegedly stolen in June 2025, though the culprit could not be identified at the time.
To trace the offender, CCTV cameras were installed inside the flat in December 2025. On Thursday around 9 pm, CCTV alerts showed Sharma entering the apartment using duplicate keys and stealing an additional Rs1 lakh, a police officer said.
Based on the footage, Sharma was confronted and allegedly confessed to committing the thefts. The Amboli police were immediately informed, and a team reached the spot and arrested the accused.
Further investigation is underway.
