In a major success against organized crime, the Delhi Police have busted a sophisticated vehicle theft syndicate, arresting three alleged members and recovering 16 high-end stolen cars, an official said.

The probe began after a Hyundai Creta was stolen from Delhi’s Pitampura area on August 5. As the investigation progressed, the case was transferred to the Crime Branch on September 5 to explore possible interstate links.

A significant breakthrough came on December 24 when investigators received a tip-off connecting several stolen vehicles to a suspect operating out of Jalandhar, Punjab. Acting on the information, police conducted raids that led to the arrest of Damandeep Singh, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the racket.

Singh allegedly ran a second-hand car business and used it as a front to transport stolen vehicles from Delhi to Punjab. The syndicate is accused of forging vehicle documents and re-registering the cars before selling them to unsuspecting buyers.

Subsequent arrests and recoveries exposed the scale of the operation, with police indicating that more individuals may be involved. Further investigation is underway to dismantle the wider network and identify additional beneficiaries of the illegal trade.
