Hebri police have arrested Wasim Akram (32) and Saifan Mukthasar, both residents of Kemmannu Hoode, Udupi district, in connection with a cattle theft and killing case. The arrests followed a swift police operation near the Ganjimath bus stop at Moodutheraru village in Mangaluru, conducted as part of intensified efforts against cattle-related offences in the region.

Authorities stated that the investigation began after a complaint was filed regarding the illegal theft and slaughter of cattle, which had raised concerns among local residents. Acting on credible intelligence, police traced the suspects’ movements and intercepted them for questioning, during which their alleged involvement came to light.

Following their detention, both were formally arrested and booked under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with the Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. These provisions address illegal cattle slaughter, theft, and acts causing cruelty to animals.

Officials emphasized that the inclusion of multiple legal sections reflects the seriousness of the offence and the legal framework in place to prevent such crimes. A police officer said, “Cattle theft and killing are not only criminal offences but also issues that affect social harmony and animal welfare. Such cases will be dealt with strictly.”

Police are also investigating whether the accused are part of a larger network involved in similar activities across districts.
