In a tragic case from Karnataka’s Shivamogga district, a man named Gopi has been arrested for allegedly strangling his wife, Chandanabai, after she opposed his plan to marry another woman. The incident occurred inside their home in Pandarahalli Camp, Bhadravati taluk on January 11.
Police said the case initially went unreported but came to light after Holehonnur police began an investigation. During questioning, evidence surfaced linking Gopi to the crime, leading to his arrest.
The couple, married for around six years, had two young sons. Chandanabai belonged to the Lambani community from DB Halli village, while Gopi was from the Bovi community. Despite their different castes, the couple had eloped and started a family.
Authorities noted that the domestic conflict escalated when Gopi developed a relationship with another woman and insisted on a second marriage, which Chandanabai strongly opposed. Their disagreements became frequent, reportedly fueled by Gopi’s habits of visiting clubs and maintaining relationships with other women.
Enraged by his wife’s refusal, Gopi allegedly strangled her in their home. Police confirmed that he initially tried to conceal his involvement, but detailed questioning revealed the truth. A murder case has now been registered, and Gopi is in custody.
Locals expressed sorrow for the couple’s two small sons, who have been left motherless due to the tragic incident.
