ABERDEEN, N.C. — Aberdeen police have charged a Fayetteville man in connection with a shoplifting incident at Burlington on Nov. 15 that escalated into a vehicle pursuit through a residential neighborhood.
According to authorities, officers were dispatched after reports that two suspects were attempting to leave the store with two carts full of merchandise. By the time police arrived, the suspects’ vehicle had already fled the scene.
Officers located the vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the driver allegedly refused, continuing the pursuit into a nearby neighborhood. The driver then fled on foot. A female passenger was detained, but the driver remained at large.
Through surveillance footage, records, and additional investigation, police identified the driver as 34-year-old Andrew Floyd. Warrants were issued for multiple charges, including:
Felony flee to elude arrest
Misdemeanor larceny
Possession of stolen property
Resisting a public officer
Reckless driving to endanger
Driving while license revoked
Fictitious tags
Driving left of center
Failure to stop at a signal
Authorities initially attempted to locate Floyd in Aberdeen, but he was not immediately found. On Dec. 8, Floyd was arrested by the Wake County Sheriff’s Office and brought before a magistrate, who ordered no bond pending conditions of pretrial release.
Aberdeen police emphasize that all charges are allegations, and Floyd is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
